Oil Paint Stain Off Carpet
Use steam to softened the stain so it can be separated from the carpet fibers.
Oil paint stain off carpet. Pour some hot water over the stain to moisten the area. Use a light touch and try not to push the paint deeper into the carpet. Oil based paint stains on carpet. It should not be hot enough to damage carpet fibers although you should use caution until you know for sure.
How to remove oil paint stains from carpet. Use a handheld steamer to keep the paint damp and soft. Oil based paint is much more difficult to remove. Scoop up and blot as much of the spill as possible then vacuum up any dry particles.
Prepare suggested cleaning solutions above beginning with the first one listed. Simultaneously pick at the paint stain with a needle or a pin to try and break it up. Test the cleaning solution on a small inconspicuous section of carpet. Examine the dried carpeting for any traces of the oil stain.
For water based or latex paint. If traces are found repeat the process described above. You may need to clean the area multiple times before the stain disappears completely. A number of hand held steam cleaners are capable of generating 285 degree steam which should be hot enough to help soften dried oil based paint.
Apply steam directly to the stain. Add a bit of mild dish soap and start scrubbing the area with a stiff bristled scrub brush until it mixes into a light lather. If the paint stain is dry you ll want to use a steamer to soften the stain. Oil based paint stains are more difficult to remove so it may take a while to fully dissolve the pigment.
If the drip is wet blot with a clean white cloth or paper towel to absorb as much paint as possible.
